Category Archives: Jonathan Hamilton’s Civil War Diary

Jonathan Hamilton was mustered into Company B of the 99th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (O.V.I.), as a Private, on August 26, 1862 at Camp Lima, Ohio. The 99th O.V.I. was consolidated into Company F of the 50th O.V.I. on December 31, 1864. These entries are from a diary that Jonathan kept for about seven months. Most of the entries in the diary are very brief and do not provide much insight into Jonathan’s feelings regarding the war and his service. I transcribed these entries directly from Jonathan Hamilton’s diary and any handwriting that I had trouble deciphering is indicated with a question mark (?). All spelling and punctuation has been copied exactly as Jonathan Hamilton wrote it in his diary.
